Your mileage has certainly become a much more interesting topic in recent times. This is not because folks have just developed a new love for auto mechanics; it has to do with how much of our monthly spend goes to gas. The price of gas is still near all time highs and does not show any signs of dropping low enough to really make a difference. I will give you a few tips that will help you maximize your gas mileage.

You can get better gas mileage by changing your oil at regular intervals. If you’ve been putting off this important chore indefinitely you’ve built a drain on your finances without knowing. Time is money. But the time spent on changing your oil is saved at the gas station. Always remember what you’re losing otherwise. This will motivate you to do your oils as frequently as necessary.

The next thing that can help you improve your mileage is the attention you give to your tires. The condition of your tires affects your fuel use. Under inflated tires lower your gas mileage by 0.4 for every one pound of drop in pressure of all four tires. This means that if you’re under inflated by as much as 5 pounds you are losing as much as 2% in your fuel economy.

Still on tires, if your tires are not properly aligned they will drag and not roll freely. This also will increase fuel consumption. So, it’s a good idea to ensure your tires are properly aligned. Generally make sure your tires have all the care they require. You’ll get better mileage for that.

The more load you have on your car, the less your gas mileage. This means that you must get rid of stuff that are of no practical use to you on a drive. Check your trunk, you’ll be surprised how much has accumulated over time. Remove them and keep only the essentials.

A warm engine saves more fuel than a cool engine. How can you take advantage of this fact? Simple. Try as much as possible to combine every bit of activity that involves driving around into one or less drives. You can work out mutual arrangements with friends that will help you maximize this option.

There are features you can use on the highway to improve your gas mileage. They are the cruise control and the overdrive. The first helps you maintain your speed while the other provides an extra gear for high speeds.

Driving at speeds above 60km/h lower you gas mileage. So drive at slower speeds wherever you can.
Go ahead and make sure you try all these tips and you’ll improve your gas mileage considerably.

These days, thanks to the internet and online car auction websites, there are even more options for checking out a large selection of seized cars, repossessed cars and vehicles that are being sold through the various kinds of used car auctions, both online and off.

One of the best things about the online auto auctions is that, while browsing the internet for just the right vehicle to meet the needs of you and your family, you can also take advantage of that same technology to do the investigation that will help you to know whether or not you really are getting a great deal on the car. Having that kind of research in hand, which includes digging up the Kelly Blue Book price to give you a good knowledge of the fair market price of the vehicle, will help you know when to stop bidding so that you don’t get carried away and end up paying too much because you got sucked into a bidding war.

One of the reasons why online car auction websites are becoming more and more popular all the time is that they eliminate the hassles of dealing with a car salesman. There is actually a lot of truth to the old jokes about the various sales tactics that car salesmen employ, and you can avoid all of that when you make your purchase through a car auto auction.

As you prepare to make your first vehicle purchase through an online used car auction, you should register with at least a few of the different online car auction websites and spend some time getting familiar with every aspect of the website and the online auto auction proceedings and policies for the help www.mining-auction-gold.com. Watch a few auctions on all of the sites that you are registered with to see how things progress and to get a feel for the “culture” of the different online auto auction sites. You will more than likely start to feel that one of the sites feels like the best place for you to try your hand at getting the winning bid on a car.

The websites that run the online auto auctions usually have a filtering function that will allow you to look for certain types of automobiles and to search in a certain region near your home. You might find that you have plenty of options within just a five mile radius of your home, or you may have to extend the search criteria for areas that are quite distant from your location. You will want to restrict the search area to a distance that you are comfortable driving to so that you can do an inspection and take the automobile for a test drive.

There are also vehicle history reports that are available online that can give you additional information on the vehicle you are interested in bidding on. Some online car auction sites provide those reports for an additional fee or have links to help you find such services. Do as much homework on the vehicle as you can upfront and keep in mind that with any type of used car auction, all sales are final.

I have a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix that has 78,000 miles on it. I’d like to have it serviced just because. What exactly do mechanics do during a tune up. Will my service be better if I take it to a Pontiac/GM Goodwrench place, or will a local mechanic do just fine?

Tune ups generally involve changing the spark plugs and wires, changing the oil and the oil filter, and replacing the air filter. I would think one mechanic can do just as well as another, given these fairly easy tasks. My only recommendation would be to take it to someone you trust. Or find someone who can teach you how to do it yourself and save money. Good luck.

I had tire tread fly into my car on the highway. Tore the bumper and smashed the condenser. The insurance company has after market parts on the estimate, but I want to sell this car someday and want OEM. I’m pretty sure I am out of luck, but just wanted to make sure as this is my first time dealing with an incident. Thanks.
Haha, yes, I know what after market is. What I didn’t know was insurance policy and effect to the value of the vehicle. Great answers so far. Thanks for all your help.

When you go to sell the car they wont’ care about the OEM parts. If you go to a dealer to trade the car in, they will see work is done. Right there they will assume the worst. You can fight yoru insurance company. Get an estimate on your own and see if they will pay for it or meet you half way.

Hi! :D
I have a 2001 Silver Honda Accord Coupe LX.
My current problem with my car is that air won’t blow on any other fan setting except full blast. When the air is on full blast, it is not cold air, but rather very dry hot air. (I live in Louisiana and it’s mega hot right now.) I’ve taken it to an auto repair shop and they said it was the "Relay" or "Air blower resister". The air conditioning worked for a month until it went out again. Advice? Could it be the relay or air blower resister thing? Or is what they are telling me, really is what’s wrong with it, but giving me crap parts? Help. Haha.

It sounds like you have two problems…the fan speed problem is probably from a bad fan switch or resistor in the circuit as the shop said….the high speed is controlled by a relay and the dash fan switch…the lower speeds are controlled by a resistor and the fan switch. If the high speed works, then the low speed problem is likely either the dash switch or resistor or both. If the fan is not blowing cold air, you have a separate problem with the A/C system not kicking on or functioning which could be a bad relay, low freon, leak, etc..

This link offers a guide to finding local shops recommended by others if you have doubts about the one you are using.
