clutch acts like it is not clutching pressure plate. I can put tranny in gear with pedal in or out. release clutch pedal no power transmitted to drive axles. It worked great for the first 4 blocks then went limp. I’m going to go back in and retorque bolts. i had flywheel machined. do bolts on pressure plate control mating of clutch and pressureplate?

It could be the throwout bearing fork that actually engauges and disengauges the clutch, But all the other answers that I’ve read are very likely also. Usually the pressure plate bolts won’t all be able to be reinstalled if it is on wrong, because the bolt holes won’t lineup all the way around the plate. But I don’t know that type of car very well either, I have had this happen to a 1995 dodge neon. Good Luck

The Nissan Mexicana earlier announced that it will unveil a new compact sedan to the Mexican market based on the Renault Logan. The upcoming sedan is set to go on sale in Mexico this summer.

The new vehicle will be built at the Renault of Brazil industrial complex in Curitiba. Further information about the upcoming vehicle, including its name, specifications and powertrain, will be announced later by the automaker. Nonetheless, the car is expected to have the distinct and trusted auto parts like the Nissan Exedy clutch kit, engines, suspension, radiator, brakes, and more.

Nissans new vehicle will form part of Mexicana’s compact car lineup that includes the Platina, Tiida and Tsuru sedan. The Platina is a supermini or subcompact which was originally launched in 1990. The car is inspired by Renault Clio with slight changes in the front of the car. The Nissan Tiida sedan, a compact car based on the B platform with stretched wheelbase, serves as replacement for both the Pulsar and the Sunny vehicles. Nissan Tsuru, a small car, was originally launched in 1966. The Tsuru is larger than the supermini but not as big as the Bluebird models.

To make Nissan Mexico lineup even more powerful, it will be adding up an interesting new compact car. The automaker is also strengthening its alliance with Renault. Importing the Renault-made Nissan vehicle to Mexico is another example of the possibilities and strength of the Renault Nissan Alliance in regard vehicle development. At present, the Renault Clio is built at the Nissan plant in Aguascalientes, Mexico.

The Logan, sold in other markets under the Dacia and Renault brands, has established clear cut success in Eastern and Western Europe. The car recently was launched in India to boost Nissans lineup. The production of Logan started in 2004 in Romania by Dacia, a subsidiary of Renault. Since the car first went on sale, more than 450,000 vehicles have been sold around the globe.

The Curitiba Industrial Complex was established in 1998. The facility produces both Nissan and Renault branded commercial and passenger vehicles, including the Frontier pick-up truck, the Xterra sport-utility vehicle and now the Logan-based products, as well as the Renault Clio, Megane and Scenic families and the Master Van. Additionally, Renault engines are also produced in the same facility.

The Logan-based product will also be sold through the Renault sales channel in Brazil and Argentina. This piece of information was earlier confirmed by Renault.

The truck is 5+ years old and has just over 100K miles. Is it time for a new clutch, and how much should I expect to pay for the repair?

I helped my friend replace the clutch in his 1996 S-10, it took 4 hours and $200 in parts.
what is the rate for labor at your local shops ?

they should be able to quote this one really easy for you.

The Car Care Council reports that during the Car Care Aware Fairs last April and October 2006 they discovered that nine out of 10 vehicles need maintenance and repair services. Such findings they say, is going to be important especially for the huge untapped DIY and DIFM sales opportunities for the automotive aftermarket.

Approximately one thousand vehicles were inspected during the fair submitted by event coordinators from sixteen states. The result shows that 88% of the vehicles checked during the National Car Care Month in April and Fall Car Care Month in October needed maintenance of their vehicles as well as replacement parts like for example fuel parts, windshield wipers, air filters, belts, hoses and lights. Some vehicles were also in need of motor oil or fluids.

According to Rich White, Executive Director of Car Care Council, “Vehicle check-up events are typically the focus of Car Care Aware Fairs sponsored by repair shops, parts stores, distributors in cooperation with local vocational schools, media, civic groups and others. While these events are free to consumers and serve as community-relations builders, most aftermarket businesses who participate experience an increase in sales and customers as a result.”

The result of the vehicle check-ups during the Car Care Aware Fairs are as follows:

Car Lubricants and Fluids- 30% of the vehicles checked have either overfull, low or dirty motor oils, 28% have inadequate level of washer fluid and 28% have low, leaky or dirty coolant. Likewise, transmission, brake power steering and clutch fluids were also checked and resulted to a 26% failure rating.

About 15% of the checked vehicles were found out to have faulty front windshields while 9% needed service to rear wipers.

Out of the 22% vehicles inspected there was only one car with a belt that needed replacement

14% vehicles need new hose

25% of the vehicles calls for new filters

8% requires new PVC filters

8% needs to have their check engine light repaired

17% require the repair of their battery cables, clamps, and terminals

9% of the batteries were not properly attached

11% had either green, dark or clear/yellow charge indicator light

20% have improperly inflated tires

11% worn tread and need replacement

18% have faulty license plate lights

10% have faulty brake lights

8 % defective side markers

I’m looking at an 86 Scirocco 16V that needs the clutch replaced. Now, i don’t think this is something i can do in my driveway, so before i start calling around, what seems like a good price on a shop to do this if i supply the clutch?

Also, if you think i could do this myself, feel free to give me some tips. I have never replace a clutch before.

If it is done right, it should cost about $400. That would include a complete clutch kit and resurfaceing the flywheel

The cooling system of your Volkswagen vehicle is an important part in order to keep your vehicle operating efficiently. The cooling system maintains the right temperature of your engine through the circulation of coolant through the engine that picks up heat and passing it through the radiator where it is cooled with air. The coolant in turn passes through a thermostat valve to control flow and through a temperature sensor which controls external air cooling fans.

Volkswagen vehicle cooling systems are comprised of three main parts and these are the VW water pump, VW hoses and VW thermostat, radiator and sensors.

Volkswagen Water Pump

The VW water pump handles the VWs cooling systems pumping function which keeps the coolant mixture moving. The basic VW water pump is gear or belt-driven there are also some cases in other cars wherein a secondary electric water pump is used to improved cooling and flow of the coolant mixture. One of the most important parts of the pumps operation is the drive belt which is also known on most new cars as the timing belt. However, on older car models, the pump and the belt are external and run off the main crankshaft pulley using a V of flat belt.

The maintenance of VW water pump is done simultaneous with the replacement of the coolant, the drive belt and tension adjustment (external type). The timing belt driven pumps should always be done when replacing the timing belt and tensioner.

Volkswagen Hoses

The VW cooling system involves various hoses which includes the Volkswagen radiator hose, control valves, the heater core and the expansion tank. And since these materials are constantly used and are exposed to heated coolant, these parts deteriorate easily and needs to be change more often.

The maintenance of cooling system piping consists of scheduled replacement of all hoses, replacement of coolant plus the replacement of any unplugged or leaking parts. It is a good idea to have all hoses checked at least twice a year to see whether there are abrasions, flexibility, cracks, and leakage. And of course it is vital that whenever coolant is flushed for replacement or even during engine repairs that hoses should be replaced. Radiator hoses, expansion tanks, heater cores, and control valves are commonly replaced due to leakage or plugging. However it is important that a VW professional should be the one contacted to assess the condition of these parts since they know everything there is to know about Volkswagen components.

Volkswagen Radiator, Thermostat and Sensors

Volkswagens cooling systems temperature controls include all coolant temperature sensors, radiator or expansion tank cap, thermostat, cooling fan(s) and fan clutch. These cooling parts function independently of the engine but maintain the control over the engine cooling which is made by means of sending control signals to the VWs electronic systems.

The spring loaded valve that opens and closes based on the temperature of the coolant flowing through it is called the thermostat. You can tell that something is wrong with your thermostat when you see a high temperature reading is followed by a drop to normal temperature or a continuously low temperature—this normally indicates a sticking thermostat. Unfortunately, there are other conditions that caused these symptoms and if you are not sure what causing it then better have a VW professional mechanic to check it.

The radiator or expansion tank cap is similarly a spring loaded valve that reacts to system pressure. Its function is to maintain proper system coolant level at predetermined pressures. It should always be replaced with an exact replacement cap with the same pressure setting to obtain optimum function.

A belt-driven fan blade that pulls air through the radiator is usually included on the water pump pulley with a fan clutch to control it. The fan clutch functioned by allowing the fan to turn with the belt at low engine speed and shift to free-wheel at higher speeds. A damage fan clutch should not be taken for granted since it may cause your vehicle to overheat.

An electric fan that can function by itself or with an auxiliary mechanical fan is usually equipped for front-wheel-drive Volkswagen. These two types of fans are controlled via a temperature sensor that is found on the radiator specifically on the upper radiator hose or on the thermostat or water pump housing. This sensor is usually an on/off type switch with a fixed temperature setting.

The other common temperature sensors that are found on Volkswagen vehicles include: gauge sender, warning light sender, lambda and/or fuel injection sensor/s and the thermo-time switch. Controlling the engine temperature is critical to obtain high performance and emission control. But unfortunately it is also the system that is one of the most difficult to fix getting a VW professional is highly advised.

On the other hand maintenance of your cooling system sensors is a no sweat task since there is nothing to maintain in the first place, all you have to do is to keep them clean internally and externally. Likewise, checking and replacing all parts at the set factory-recommended time or mileage limit also help to maintain the good running condition of your VW car.
